Spring Break Activities For All Ages

April 9, 2011 / Posted by in Blog

As the warmer weather rolls in with the beginning of spring, students of all ages look forward to one week of freedom—spring break! While spring break provides time for catching up on rest, participating in leisure activities, and spending time with friends and family, it also brings with it great opportunity for high school students to brush up on SAT/ACT skills and/or visit colleges and universities.

Despite the wealth of knowledge available in print and online, students can gain better insight into a college’s community and environment by visiting it. Touring a college allows students to explore its available facilities and the surrounding area. It also creates the opportunity for potential students to meet current students and faculty members. There are many characteristics of a college that cannot be captured in magazine pictures, statistics, or text. Some things, like mood, atmosphere, and spirit, can only be experienced. It is important for students to explore their interest in particular colleges by spending time on campus and imagining how they would fit into their surroundings. Spring break is an excellent time for students to visit campuses across the country and get a taste of the college experience.

Spring break is also an opportune time for vacationing with family and friends. Orlando, Florida is fun for the entire family—kids of any age, as they say! With enticements like the warm Florida ocean, Disney World, Epcot, Animal Kingdom, and the Wizarding World of Harry Potter at Universal Studios’ Islands of Adventure—based on J. K. Rowling’s best-selling books—Florida is a great destination for a family seeking educational-fun and variety. Other great family destinations include historical cities such as Boston, Washington D.C., and Williamsburg. Museums, national parks, monuments, and historic tours are great ways to explore and learn about different areas at a leisure pace.

There are many activities for students of all ages to do during spring break—the possibilities are endless! Balancing rest, a bit of education, and adventure creates a great recipe for a productive, helpful, and fulfilling spring break.
