University of Pittsburgh

University of Pittsburgh or “Pitt” is a public institution located in the Oakland neighborhood, about 3 miles from downtown Pittsburgh. The University’s undergraduate enrollment is around 18,500. While Pitt has an active Greek life presence on campus—with about 35 fraternities and sororities—there are many social alternatives for students who do not wish to join.

Pitt is known for having powerhouse sports team, especially the nationally ranked football and basketball teams in the NCAA Division 1 Big East Conference. Pitt students are loyal fans; attending sports events is a big part of most students’ social lives.

The most popular majors at the university are marketing/marketing management, psychology, and speech and rhetorical studies. The university is known for its highly ranked School of Medicine, School of Education, and Swanson School of Engineering. The 2013 acceptance rate for undergraduates was 57.9%.
