ISEE

ISEE – Short for Independent School Entrance Examination, the ISEE is a standardized test that students must take to gain acceptance to many private middle schools and high schools. Dependent on your age, you may take either the Lower, Middle, or Upper level ISEE. The ISEE consists of four sections (Verbal Reasoning, Quantitative Reasoning, Reading Comprehension and Mathematics Achievement) along with an ungraded Essay. The Verbal Reasoning section of the ISEE consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that test a student’s vocabulary by using synonyms and sentence completion. The Reading Comprehension section of the ISEE consists of 40 multiple-choice questions that test a student’s ability to read and interpret fictional and nonfiction passages. The Quantitative Reasoning section of the ISEE consists of 35 multiple-choice questions that test a student’s ability to interpret and compute mathematical data. The Mathematics Achievement section of the ISEE consists of 45 multiple-choice questions that test a student’s ability to perform general mathematical concepts. The Writing sample will not be scored, but it is sent to every school that you apply to.
